Keller&Molitor2011The 2012 festive season in Brussels started tonight (22.12.) with a discovery menu: Roasted scallops (=Jakobsmuscheln) with fresh ceps (=Steinpilze) as appetizer, followed by a roasted half lobster with citronella and oriental vegetables.

My first reaction was to go for German Riesling wines with the menu. To the scallops I enjoyed a 2011 (Klaus Peter) KELLER Riesling trocken "von der Fels". The bouquet of apples and pears was followed by an acidic first taste which was not exactly fitting the ceps. Quickly it transitioned to a milder lemony taste that connected nicely with the scallops. Overall an interesting experience but nothing like what followed: A dreamlike 2011 Klaus Molitor Riesling Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Kabinett "Fuder-6"  fit like a glove to the lobster: Butter and vanilla dominate this extraordinary Riesling kabinett from one of the masters in the Mosel and probably in all of Germany. The intense mineral bouquet announces a grand Riesling and is followed by a lemon-butter taste with hints of vanilla that harmonizes perfectly with the citronella and the lobster. It feels like dipping the lobster in the butter of the Riesling! An amazing combination and a great start in the 2012 Christmas season.

Stay tuned for the next chapter involving an unsuspecting Bresse Capon stuffed with Fine de Champagne and Truffles and accompanied by Roero, Barbaresco and Barolo!
